TC KICKS OFF HOLIDAY SEASON WITH $60,000 DONATION TO NATIONAL NONPROFIT APRAXIA KIDS
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (May 2, 2022) – Taco Cabana has donated $60,000 to its national nonprofit partner, Apraxia Kids. The partnership, which launched in April 2022, was initiated with the objective of changing the lives of children living without a voice, not only in its home state of Texas, but across the U.S.
Recently awarded at Taco Cabana’s first Taco Cabana General Manager Conference in nearly three years, the $60,000 donation encompasses 100% of the total statewide sales from TC’s beloved Halloween Taco Treats for a Cause coupon booklets, as well as donated funds from TC guests who selected to round-up their sales total to donate to Apraxia Kids or make a direct donation to the organization at the restaurant level.
In addition to the $60,000 donation, Taco Cabana field leadership and team members recently participated in the largest on-the-ground fundraisers for Apraxia Kids held annually in Texas, including Walk for Apraxia in El Paso, Houston and North Texas. At each event, the hundreds of attendees could enjoy complimentary servings of TC’s classic bean and cheese tacos and chips and queso. TC team members also made themselves available as event volunteers at the walk sites.
“Having been with TC for nearly 15 years, the Apraxia Kids partnership has created an internal movement within the Brand like I’ve never seen before,” said Ulyses Camacho, Taco Cabana’s Chief Operating Officer. “The partnership has provided a unifying common-goal purpose to our TC team members, that of helping to raise money to provide support and therapy that gives a voice to children who are living, or have lived, without one for so long. Corazon, or heart, is the center of the food and service we craft every day at Brand TC, and our Apraxia Kids partnership is no different.”
Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to communicate verbally. Children with the diagnosis generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say; however, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. Apraxia Kids is the leading nonprofit that strengthens the support systems in the lives of children with Apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families, fostering community engagement and outreach and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
“The Apraxia Kids partnership means so much to so many of us here at Taco Cabana,” said Anil Yadav, Taco Cabana’s Chief Executive Officer. “The thought of helping to generate awareness of the great things that Apraxia Kids does for children and their families across the state, and raising money via donations, has created so much enthusiasm and motivation in all of our Texas markets at the restaurant-level.”
“We are so grateful for our continued partnership with Taco Cabana,” said Angela Grimm, Apraxia Kids’ Executive Director. “This partnership furthers the awareness of Apraxia Kids and childhood apraxia of speech, making it easier for families to find us along their apraxia journeys. Apraxia Kids and our community cannot thank Taco Cabana enough for their support of the Walk for Apraxia and Apraxia Kids. We look forward to furthering this partnership.”
The Taco Cabana and Apraxia Kids partnership remains an ongoing effort for Brand TC. For more information on Apraxia Kids or to donate, visit apraxia-kids.org/donate. For more information on Taco Cabana, tacocabana.com.
