Surprise Donation to Apraxia Kids at the 2023 National Apraxia Kids Conference

SAN ANTONIO, TX July 7th, 2023) – Last night, Taco Cabana surprised its national nonprofit partner, Apraxia Kids, with a $50,000 check donation in front of 500 attendees during the National Apraxia Kids Conference in Plano, Texas. Taco Cabana’s partnership with Apraxia Kids, which launched in April 2022, was initiated with the objective of changing the lives of children living with Apraxia not only in its home state of Texas, but across the United States.

100% of the donated funds came from TC guests who selected to round-up their receipt total to donate to Apraxia Kids or made a direct donation to the organization at a Texas Taco Cabana restaurant over the last six months.

“We could not be more thrilled to have made this incredible donation to our friends and partners at Apraxia Kids,” said Ulyses Camacho, President and COO of Taco Cabana. “The work they do each and every day conducting research, providing resources and giving hope and encouragement to thousands of families is inspiring. The Apraxia message has resonated with our TC guests over the last year and their generosity across Texas has been phenomenal. We thank each and every guest who has made this donation possible. Each donation takes us one step closer to giving every child a voice.”

Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to communicate verbally. Children with the diagnosis generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say; however, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. Apraxia Kids is the leading nonprofit that strengthens the support systems in the lives of children with Apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families, fostering community engagement and outreach and investing in the future through advocacy and research.

“What a wonderful surprise as we kicked off our National Conference last evening,” said Angela Grimm, Executive Director, Apraxia Kids. “We are so grateful for our continued partnership with Taco Cabana and all of its employees, working each day to spread awareness about childhood apraxia of speech and raising funds to support our mission. With Taco Cabana’s incredible donation, we can continue to develop new programs and resources for our families and professional community. Apraxia Kids and our community cannot thank Taco Cabana enough for its support of our organization.”

The Taco Cabana and Apraxia Kids partnership remains an ongoing effort for Brand TC. For more information on Apraxia Kids or to donate directly, visit apraxia-kids.org/donate. Guests may also make direct donations to Apraxia Kids by visiting any Texas Taco Cabana restaurant.
